Ready for Company

A Hearth That Is Ready When the Guests Arrive

Few things set a room off like a fire going while the house fills up with company. The trouble is that a smoky flue or a sulking pilot light tends to show itself at exactly the wrong moment. Chimney Sweep Vancouver books a Chimney Sweep ahead of the gathering season so your first big evening goes smoothly, and our Gas Fireplace Maintenance makes sure the flame lights on the first try. Homes around Vancouver fill up fast in the colder months, and a ready hearth is one less thing to fuss over.

A Sweep Before the Party Season

Well ahead of the busy weeks, we brush and vacuum the flue and check the damper and smoke shelf, so a full evening of burning does not turn smoky.

Gas Flame Ready to Perform

Glass and logs get a wipe-down, ignition is tested and the burner is looked over, so the fireplace lights quickly and looks tidy when everyone gathers round.

Tracing Chimney Leaks

Where Water Gets In Is Often Not Where the Stain Appears

Why Choose Chimney Sweep Vancouver
  1. Follow the Stain Upward

Water travels along beams and drywall before it shows, so the stain rarely marks the spot. Working backward from the damp patch narrows down the likely path.

  2. Test the Likely Suspects

Cap, crown, flashing and brick faces are each checked in turn, sometimes with a hose test, so the true entry point is identified rather than guessed.

  3. Fix the Source, Then the Symptom

Once water is stopped at the entry point, interior repairs make sense. Doing it in that order keeps fresh drywall from being stained again next season.

What Homeowners in Vancouver Say About Us

Hear from homeowners in Vancouver about how Chimney Sweep Vancouver transformed their chimney and fireplace experience with reliable, professional services you can trust.

Rainwater had started dripping through the chimney at our home in Kitsilano, so I contacted Chimney Sweep Vancouver for help. Their technician found damaged flashing, replaced the worn sections, and sealed the surrounding joints carefully. The leak has completely stopped, and I am very grateful for their thorough work.

Sophie Tremblay

Kitsilano

We kept hearing scratching sounds inside the chimney at our place in Hastings-Sunrise. Chimney Sweep Vancouver discovered a bird nest blocking the flue, removed it safely, cleaned the entire passage, and installed a protective cap. The strange noises are gone, and our fireplace is safe to use again.

Daniel Kwan

Hastings-Sunrise

A strong smoky odor was spreading through our house in Dunbar-Southlands even when the fireplace was not running. The crew from Chimney Sweep Vancouver traced it to heavy creosote and moisture inside the flue. They completed a deep cleaning and deodorizing treatment that solved the problem completely.

Maya Robertson

Dunbar-Southlands

The damper became stuck halfway open in our apartment at Mount Pleasant, making the room cold and drafty. Chimney Sweep Vancouver inspected the mechanism, removed years of soot around the hinges, and replaced a damaged control part. It now opens and closes smoothly, and the fireplace is much easier to manage.

Nathan Bouchard

Mount Pleasant

After noticing loose mortar around the chimney at our family home in Kerrisdale, I asked Chimney Sweep Vancouver to inspect it. Their masonry specialist repointed the failing joints, replaced two cracked bricks, and applied a weather-resistant seal. The chimney looks solid again, and the careful cleanup was greatly appreciated.

Kerrisdale

Smoke began spilling into the room whenever we lit a fire at our townhouse in Renfrew-Collingwood. Chimney Sweep Vancouver found that a damaged liner was restricting airflow and creating an unsafe draft. They installed a properly sized replacement liner, tested the system, and restored clean, reliable ventilation.

Marcus Ellison

Renfrew-Collingwood

White stains and crumbling mortar had appeared along the outside of my chimney, so I called Chimney Sweep Vancouver for an assessment. Their technician explained that trapped moisture was causing the deterioration, repaired the affected masonry, and waterproofed the surface. I am relieved the damage was handled before it became structural.

Lauren McIntyre

Fairview

My fireplace was producing weak flames and sending small amounts of smoke back into the room. Chimney Sweep Vancouver performed a detailed inspection and discovered heavy debris inside the smoke chamber. They cleaned and repaired the chamber, verified the draft, and left the fireplace working better than it has in years.

Owen Nakamura

West Point Grey

A section of the chimney crown had developed several cracks after repeated winter weather. I hired Chimney Sweep Vancouver to repair it before water could reach the masonry below. Their team rebuilt the damaged area, added a protective seal, and explained how the repair would prevent future moisture problems.

Claire Desjardins

Shaughnessy

I noticed small pieces of clay falling into the fireplace and became concerned about the condition of the flue. Chimney Sweep Vancouver used a camera inspection to locate several broken liner tiles, recommended the safest solution, and completed the relining professionally. Their clear communication gave me real peace of mind.

Quick Form, Clear Quote

Firestop Gaps

Where the chimney passes through floors and the roof deck, we check that the surrounding space is closed off with proper material.

Insulation Clearance

Attic insulation should not crowd the chimney. We look at the spacing and point out any piles that sit too close.

Stained Decking

Dark or damp roof sheathing near the chimney is a sign that water has been getting in, and it helps trace the source.

Rust at Metal Pipe

Metal chimney sections inside the attic are examined for corrosion, shaky joints and marks that suggest a slow leak.

Daylight Around the Stack

Light showing through around the chimney can mean open flashing or gaps in the roof, which we note and photograph.

Plain Report of Findings

Whatever turns up in the attic is explained to you in simple terms, with photos where access allows.

Gas Without the Guesswork

Gas Fireplaces and Stoves, Explained in Plain Language

Gas units look simple from the couch, yet the venting, the pilot and the glass all have their own care rules. The answers below explain what owners can do themselves and what belongs with a qualified gas technician. If you ever smell gas, leave the house and call the gas utility from outside. For anything else about your unit in Vancouver, ask away.

Unsure What You Need?

Let’s figure it out.

A chimney fire, a violent storm, a newly installed stove or insert, a switch to a different fuel and the sale of the home all call for a closer look. So does any smoke smell indoors or any new crack, stain or loose brick. In those cases the question is not how dirty the flue is but whether it is still sound, and cleaning alone cannot answer that.

Check local guidance first. When the air outside is already smoky, many communities ask residents to hold off on burning, and a wood fire adds more particles to the same air. A gas fireplace or an electric heater is a gentler choice if you need warmth. Whatever you decide, keep windows closed during the smoke and make sure your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms work.

A stain near the chimney can come from several sources: a roof or flashing leak, condensation on a cold chimney surface or soot carried by warm air. Brown, ring-shaped marks suggest water. Gray or black smudges may come from smoke leaking at joints. Note when it appears, such as after rain or during fires, and share that with the technician.

Dryness matters more than species. Dry softwood burned hot is cleaner than damp hardwood burned low. Hardwood does tend to give longer, steadier fires and fewer refills, which helps you keep air flowing through the stove. Whatever you burn, season it, store it off the ground and keep it covered on top. Both types still call for a regular sweep.

Light brushing with a stiff nylon brush on a dry day is fine if you can reach the area safely from the ground. Pressure washers and strong chemicals can erode soft brick and mortar, push water deeper into the wall and stain the roof below. Working on a roof around a chimney also carries real fall risk. For stubborn staining, ask a mason about a method suited to your brick.

When warm, moist flue gases rise into a cold chimney, some of the moisture condenses on the walls, much like a cold glass on a summer day. It is most common in outside chimneys, in the first minutes of a fire and with unseasoned wood or high-efficiency appliances. A properly sized, insulated liner helps keep the flue warm. If you see dripping often, have the flue checked rather than ignoring it.
